Developing Play is something we have wanted to do for a long time at Flakefleet, which is why we have decided to focus on making our play-times as stimulating, engaging and, most of all, FUN for your child at school!

We have teamed up with OPAL; a company who are experts in developing school playgrounds and the activities as well as the ethos’ that help School Play times to change for the positive.

What is OPAL?

OPAL stands for Outdoor Play and Learning. Their motto is to ‘create happier play times, better play spaces and enable staff to support new outdoor learning’

Find out more about OPAL Schools by visiting the OPAL website.

What has happened so far?

We have already made some exciting changes to playtimes:

  • All children across school can now access all of the school grounds at play times
  • We have introduced more loose parts to play with; bikes and scooters, dressing up costumes and many more
  • All staff across school have engaged in training with OPAL so we understand the different types of play and shared ideas for developing our grounds
  • Pupil Questionnaire about what sort of playground they would like and what activities/apparatus they would like to be brought in

 The Exciting Path Ahead…

We have already made huge changes to our playtimes, with the addition of tyres, bikes and scooters, dressing up, dancing in the studio and many other fun activities. We’re so excited to get out there and transform our grounds even further!

So far, our grounds are organised into zones for a range of different activities

We have plans to develop our grounds further over the course of this year, bringing Flakefleet closer to improving the quality of play and creativity at play times. We hope for it to look something like this.
