PE and School Sport
At Flakefleet Primary School, we believe that physical education, physical activity and sport are an important part of helping children to belong, believe and succeed.
We want every child to enjoy being active, develop their physical skills and confidence, and discover activities and sports that they can enjoy both in and beyond school.
A New Approach to School Sport
The government has announced changes to the way PE and school sport will be supported in primary schools.
The previous PE and Sport Premium funding model is being replaced by a new PE and School Sport Partnerships Network, which will bring together schools and sporting expertise to support high-quality PE and school sport.
The new national approach is expected to be fully operational from Spring 2027.
During the transition to the new system, the government has also announced a one-off PE Premium payment for primary schools.
As the arrangements develop, we will continue to update this page so that families can see how Flakefleet is responding to the changes.
Our Commitment to PE and Physical Activity
Regardless of changes to government funding, PE and physical activity remain an important part of life at Flakefleet.
We aim to provide children with opportunities to:
- Develop their physical skills and fitness
- Enjoy regular physical activity
- Experience a broad range of sports and activities
- Develop teamwork, communication and leadership skills
- Take part in competitive sport
- Build confidence and resilience
- Understand the importance of an active and healthy lifestyle
- Represent and celebrate our school through sporting opportunities.
Sport at Flakefleet
We are committed to giving children opportunities to be active throughout the school day, not just during PE lessons.
Our approach includes PE lessons, active play and opportunities to participate in sports and competitions. We also value the role that physical activity can play in supporting children’s wellbeing, confidence and relationships with others.
We will continue to work with local sporting organisations, partnerships and other schools where this provides valuable opportunities for our pupils.
We will publish relevant information about our PE and school sport provision and any applicable government funding here as arrangements are confirmed.
