Supporting every child to thrive
At Flakefleet Primary School, we believe that every child is unique, valued and capable of achieving great things.
We are committed to creating an inclusive school where every child feels safe, understood, valued and supported, whatever their individual needs or circumstances.
We recognise that children learn and develop in different ways. Our aim is to understand each child as an individual and provide the right support to help them feel confident, make progress and enjoy coming to school.
Our Approach to SEND
Our approach to Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND) is based on early identification, high-quality teaching, individualised support and working closely with families.
We focus on each child’s strengths, needs and aspirations, ensuring that support is carefully considered and tailored to help them achieve their potential.
Our Individual Specialist Inclusion Base
As part of our commitment to inclusive education, Flakefleet Primary School also has an Individual Inclusion base, providing specialist support for children with additional needs who require a more personalised approach to their education. Pupils are placed in the base by the Lancashire County Council consultation process and not by school.
Our base offers a nurturing, structured and supportive environment, where children can develop their learning, communication, independence and social skills at a pace that is right for them.
Children benefit from personalised provision and specialist approaches, while also being very much part of the wider Flakefleet community. Where appropriate, children have opportunities to join their mainstream peers for learning, play, activities and wider school experiences.
Our aim is to ensure that every child has a sense of belonging, is supported to develop their strengths and is given every opportunity to succeed.
Working Together with Families
We know that parents and carers know their children best. Building positive relationships with families is therefore a really important part of our SEND provision.
We listen to your views, share information regularly and work together to identify what is working well and where further support may be needed.
If you have concerns about your child’s learning, development, communication, friendships, behaviour or wellbeing, please talk to us. We are always happy to listen and explore how we can help.

Who Can Help?
If you have a question or concern about your child’s additional needs, your first point of contact is your child’s class teacher.
You can also speak to Mrs C Jagger, our SENDCo, or Mrs S Rawlinson, who provides SEN support.
We encourage families to talk to us as early as possible. You don’t need to wait until you have all the answers — we’re here to work through things with you.
