Equality, Diversity and Inclusion
Everyone belongs at Flakefleet
We believe that everyone should feel valued, respected, included and able to be themselves.
We celebrate the individuality of our children, families and staff and recognise that our differences are what make our school community so special.
We are committed to creating a school where everyone has the same opportunities to learn, grow and succeed, regardless of their background, beliefs, identity or individual circumstances.
Our Commitment to Equality
As a school, we welcome our responsibilities under the Equality Act 2010 and work hard to ensure that equality is at the heart of our school community.
Our commitment is to:
- Eliminate discrimination and challenge prejudice.
- Promote equality of opportunity for everyone.
- Foster positive relationships across our diverse school community.
- Celebrate diversity and help children understand and appreciate the differences that make us unique.
- Ensure everyone feels safe, respected and included.
The Equality Act 2010 protects people from discrimination because of nine protected characteristics: age, disability, gender reassignment, marriage and civil partnership, pregnancy and maternity, race, religion or belief, sex, and sexual orientation.
At Flakefleet, we do not tolerate discrimination, harassment or victimisation.
Our Equality Objectives
We aim to ensure that equality is not simply something written in a policy, but something that is visible in everyday life at Flakefleet.
Our objectives are to:
Create an inclusive school community: Ensure that every child, family and member of staff feels welcomed, valued and included in school life.
Celebrate diversity: Help our children understand, respect and celebrate different cultures, backgrounds, beliefs, identities and experiences.
Challenge prejudice: Give children the knowledge, confidence and language to recognise and challenge stereotypes, discrimination and prejudice.
Promote equality of opportunity: Remove barriers wherever possible so that every child can access learning, enrichment, play and wider school opportunities and reach their potential.
Support wellbeing and belonging: Create an environment where children feel safe, respected and confident to be themselves.
Equality in Our Curriculum
Equality and diversity are woven throughout our curriculum and wider school life.
Through stories, discussions, assemblies, visitors, celebrations and real-life experiences, we help children develop an understanding of the world around them and learn to appreciate different perspectives.
We want our children to leave Flakefleet with open minds, kind hearts and the confidence to stand up for what is right.
Equality in Everyday School Life
Our commitment to equality can be seen throughout our school — in our relationships, our curriculum, our approach to behaviour, our SEND provision, our pastoral support and the opportunities we provide for children to participate and succeed.
We want every child to be able to say:
“I belong at Flakefleet. I am valued. I am respected. I can be myself.”
Because at Flakefleet, everyone matters and everyone belongs. 💚
