The Role of Our Governing Body
The Governing Body plays an important role in the strategic leadership and development of Flakefleet Primary School.
Working closely with the Headteacher and school leadership team, our governors provide support, challenge and oversight to ensure that the school continues to meet its statutory responsibilities and provides the best possible outcomes for our pupils.
Governors have responsibility for overseeing a wide range of areas, including:
- Curriculum and educational standards
- School finances and resources
- Safeguarding
- Health and safety
- Staff and leadership
- School improvement
- Compliance with statutory requirements
Our governors elect a Chair and Vice-Chair and meet regularly, at least once each term. We are grateful to all our governors for the time, commitment, advice and expertise they contribute to the continued development of our school.
How Governance Works
Flakefleet Primary School’s Governing Body carries out its statutory responsibilities in line with national governance guidance.
To ensure that responsibilities are shared effectively, we operate a committee structure. Our main committees are:
- Standards and Effectiveness Committee – monitors educational standards, pupil outcomes and school improvement.
- Resources Committee – oversees finance, staffing, premises and the effective use of school resources.
- Full Governing Body – brings all governors together to consider the school’s overall strategic direction, performance and statutory responsibilities.
